Michigan wheat farmers achieved strong results during the 2025 growing season, earning recognition from the Michigan Wheat Program at the annual Winter Grower Meeting. The awards highlight growers who delivered high yields through innovation and good farming practices.
In the dryland soft red winter wheat category, first place was awarded to Clearview Farms operated by Nick Suwyn of Allegan County. Dick Suwyn from Kent County secured second place, while Bartle Farms, operated by Dwight Bartle in Sanilac County, earned third place honors.
The irrigated soft red winter wheat category was led by Nick Suwyn of Clearview Farms in Barry County. His top yield of 185.6 bushels per acre also earned him the title of overall state winner for Michigan.
Michigan farmers also gained national recognition in the 2025 National Wheat Yield Contest, where Nick Suwyn placed second in the United States in the irrigated soft red winter wheat category.
The Michigan Wheat Program supports farmer participation in both state and national contests to promote learning, innovation, and improved crop yields. Registration is now open for the 2026 National Wheat Yield Contest, with winter wheat entries due by May 15.
Through continued investment in research and grower education, the Michigan Wheat Program remains committed to advancing the state’s wheat industry.
