The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) and Pennsylvania Farm Bureau presented House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA) with the prestigious Golden Plow award. This award, the highest honor given by AFBF to sitting members of Congress, recognizes Thompson’s long-standing commitment to the agricultural community.
This marks the second time Thompson has received this honor, his first being in 2014. The award is given to those whose actions exemplify agricultural leadership and support for Farm Bureau policies, which include fiscal conservatism, private enterprise, and reduced federal regulation of businesses.
“From the moment he took office, Chairman Thompson has worked tirelessly on issues impacting farmers, ranchers and rural communities,” said AFBF President Zippy Duvall. “His unwavering support for hardworking farm families has earned him the Friend of Farm Bureau award for eight consecutive sessions, so presenting him with the Golden Plow award seems only natural. Chairman Thompson’s dedication to rural America is needed now more than ever, and his character is the epitome of what a Golden Plow recipient should be.”
The Pennsylvania Farm Bureau nominated Thompson for the Golden Plow in recognition of his work on the farm bill, disaster and economic assistance for farmers, and his efforts to support the dairy industry. His leadership in solving the agricultural labor crisis has been critical for farmers across the country.
“It has been an honor to have Congressman Thompson as the Chair of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee and in turn have Pennsylvania’s agriculture represented nationally. Congressman Thompson has dedicated countless days and nights to the betterment of farmers everywhere. His bipartisan leadership has strengthened the support for agriculture across both sides of the aisle. We are proud to have nominated the congressman for his now second Golden Plow award, which shows the significant impact he has had on the agricultural community. The work he has done back home and in D.C. has helped preserve farming and has ensured a future for food security for the consumer,” said Pennsylvania Farm Bureau President Chris Hoffman.
The Golden Plow award reflects Thompson’s dedication to rural America and his continuous effort to shape agricultural policies that benefit farm families across the nation.
