John Deere Adds Jobs and Recalls Workers

By Jamie Martin

John Deere is increasing employment opportunities across its manufacturing network by hiring new workers and recalling employees who were previously laid off.

The company expects to hire more than 400 employees over the coming months while also bringing back over 275 workers to its Waterloo, Iowa, operations. These efforts continue a workforce recovery program that began in 2024.

Once the latest recalls are completed, the total number of employees called back to work since 2024 will reach approximately 1,000. The milestone highlights the company's commitment to maintaining a skilled workforce while supporting production requirements.

John Deere reported that all employees previously on layoff in Waterloo, the Quad Cities, Ottumwa, and Dubuque have now been asked to return to work. This development reflects increasing labor needs and stronger staffing levels across these operations.

While most affected employees have been recalled, around 125 workers remain on layoff in the Des Moines region. The company continues to monitor workforce requirements as business needs evolve.

To support future production goals, several manufacturing and distribution facilities are actively hiring. Open positions are available at Harvester Works, Seeding and Cylinder operations in Moline, Illinois, the North American Parts Distribution Center in Milan, Illinois, Davenport Works, Dubuque Works, Ottumwa Works, and Coffeyville Works in Kansas.

These facilities contribute to the production and distribution of equipment, machinery components, and replacement parts used by customers across agriculture and other industries.

Expanding the workforce allows the company to improve production readiness and maintain the flexibility needed to respond to changing market conditions. A larger workforce can also help support efficient operations across manufacturing, assembly, and logistics activities.

The agricultural equipment sector often experiences shifts in demand based on economic conditions, crop performance, and customer investment decisions. Maintaining the right workforce is an important part of responding to these changes effectively.

John Deere stated that the additional employees will help the company continue meeting customer needs across a variety of operating environments. The stronger workforce will also provide support for future business planning and operational requirements.

The hiring and recall initiative benefits both experienced workers returning to their positions and new applicants entering the manufacturing sector. It also demonstrates continued investment in production capacity and workforce development.

Communities that host these facilities may benefit from increased employment opportunities and economic activity. Manufacturing jobs often support local businesses and contribute to regional growth.

As hiring progresses, John Deere continues to focus on maintaining production efficiency, supporting customers, and strengthening its workforce. The company's latest employment plans reflect a positive step toward meeting future demand while creating opportunities for workers across several states.
