USDA Conservation Programs Support Pennsylvania Producers

USDA Conservation Programs Support Pennsylvania Producers

By Blake Jackson

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) may provide a second round of conservation funding for Pennsylvania agricultural producers. The additional opportunity would give farmers and landowners more time to apply for assistance that supports conservation and long-term farm sustainability.

While NRCS accepts applications year-round, Pennsylvania previously designated October 1, 2026, as its first funding application deadline. If funding remains available, producers can apply by December 1, 2026, for consideration in a second funding round for fiscal year 2027.

The funding is part of USDA conservation investments supported through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act. These programs help producers improve soil health, protect water resources, enhance wildlife habitat, and strengthen the sustainability of their operations.

Several conservation programs are available to eligible producers. The Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) helps protect farmland from development and supports wetland restoration and conservation efforts.

The Agricultural Management Assistance (AMA) program helps producers manage risk through conservation practices, farm diversification, and marketing strategies. It is designed to improve both environmental stewardship and farm profitability.

Additional assistance is available through the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), which helps producers expand existing conservation activities. The program supports improvements in resource management and operational efficiency.

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) provides financial and technical assistance to address challenges related to water quality, air quality, soil health, erosion control, and natural resource management.

NRCS is also offering support through the Regenerative Pilot Program (RPP). The program allows producers to implement whole-farm regenerative practices through a combined application process for EQIP and CSP benefits.

Funding opportunities may also be available through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), depending on available project funding. Producers interested in participating are encouraged to contact their local USDA Service Center.

For more than 90 years, NRCS has helped farmers, ranchers, and forestland owners improve soil, water, air quality, and wildlife habitat. Through technical guidance and financial assistance, the agency continues to support productive and environmentally sustainable agricultural operations.
