The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is organizing its annual Farm City Day events this spring in Harrisburg and Philadelphia, offering students a hands-on introduction to agriculture.
These events aim to educate children about the origins of their food and the diverse career paths available in agriculture.
Students will participate in interactive learning stations covering various agricultural sectors, including animal husbandry, beekeeping, forestry, and vegetable cultivation.
This immersive experience is designed to engage students, caregivers, and teachers, sparking further interest in agriculture's role in their daily lives.
Farm City Day - Central PA:
- Dates: May 7th and 8th
- Location: Farm Show Complex and Expo Center, Harrisburg, PA
- Target Audience: Elementary students from Harrisburg and surrounding areas.
- Registration: Required, closes April 23rd.
Farm City Day - Eastern PA:
- Date: May 14th (rain date May 15th)
- Location: Fox Chase Farm, Philadelphia, PA
- Collaboration: School District of Philadelphia.
- Target Audience: Students from Southeast Pennsylvania.
- Activities: Animal visits and agricultural engagement.
- Registration: Required, closes April 30th.
These events provide a unique opportunity for students to directly experience agriculture, promoting understanding and potential future involvement in the industry.
