Little Leaf Farms to Open New Greenhouse in Pennsylvania, Expanding Production Capacity
Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 06/07/2023

Little Leaf Farms, a packaged lettuce brand known for its controlled environment agriculture (CEA) approach, has announced its plans to open a modern greenhouse in McAdoo, Pennsylvania this autumn.

The upcoming facility, the brand's fifth and second in Pennsylvania, will enable an expanded indoor production capacity of ten additional acres. As a result, Little Leaf Farms will extend its retail reach to nearly 5,000 grocery stores, increasing its annual harvest of leafy greens to over 20 million lbs across all sites.

Utilizing advanced technology such as heating, cooling, and lighting systems, as well as harnessing the power of natural sunlight and rainwater, the state-of-the-art greenhouse will incorporate Little Leaf Farms' hands-free automated grow system. This system ensures that the leafy greens remain untouched from seed to packaging and eliminates the need for washing.

Paul Sellew, the founder and CEO of Little Leaf Farms, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainable produce production and its dedication to providing fresh and flavorful leafy greens to consumers.

The expansion in Pennsylvania marks another milestone for the brand as it continues to scale up its efficient production and operations.

To celebrate the announcement, Little Leaf Farms hosted a ceremony on May 31 and presented a $10,000 donation to Feeding Pennsylvania, a local non-profit organization working towards reducing hunger and food insecurity across the state. The funds will be distributed to Feeding Pennsylvania's member food banks.
