Synagro Advances Circular Economy Goals

Synagro Advances Circular Economy Goals

By Jamie Martin

Synagro has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, showcasing the company's progress in advancing sustainable resource management and circular economy solutions over the past year.

The report emphasizes a vision that goes beyond traditional recycling by finding new ways to manage and reuse residual materials. Through innovation, collaboration, and improved efficiency, the company aims to return valuable resources back into productive use while reducing environmental impacts.

One of the report's most notable achievements is the avoidance of more than two million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions during 2025. This was made possible by converting residual materials into nutrient-rich products that can be used beneficially rather than disposed of in landfills.

"Over our 40-year history, we have always led with our purpose: to clean water, regenerate soil and have a net positive impact on people and the planet," said Bob Preston, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Synagro. "Last year we grew our business again and invested in new facilities, technologies and partnerships to ensure this growth remains sustainable."

According to the report, more than 17 million tons of residuals were managed during the year, and over 80% were directed to beneficial use of applications. The company also reported a 10% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions compared with 2023 levels.

Operational improvements extended beyond environmental performance. Workplace safety metrics improved significantly, with incident rates declining by more than 30%. The company also earned recognition as a top workplace, reflecting its commitment to employees and organizational excellence.

"Sustainability is the cornerstone of value creation at Synagro," said Kip Cleverley, Chief Sustainability Officer, Synagro. "We believe that being a sustainable company is the right thing to do — for the planet, for people and for our long-term success."

The report highlights continued investments in technology, infrastructure, and strategic partnerships. These investments are intended to support sustainable growth while helping customers reduce costs, improve efficiency, and strengthen environmental outcomes.

Synagro's Sustainable Growth plan is centered on three main priorities: creating a greener world, supporting passionate people, and maintaining transparent integrity. Together, these pillars guide decision-making across the organization.
