Pork takes center stage in PA with cookoffs, classes

Pork takes center stage in PA with cookoffs, classes

By Blake Jackson

The Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council (PPPC) has declared October as pork month, an opportunity to highlight how pork is a versatile and nutritious protein choice for families.

PPPC is kicking off the celebrations with its headline sponsorship of the 2023 Penn State Rib Cookoff on October 14. Local restaurants will battle it out for the title of Best Ribs, and the winner will be presented with a trophy during half-time of the PSU Football game against the University of Massachusetts.

The PSU Rib Cookoff is a continuation of PPPC's Raise a Rib summer campaign, which showcased real families who produce real pork.

In addition, PPPC is partnering with the GIANT Company for two cooking classes in October where pork will be the key protein. Pork tenderloin and loin will be featured during the online cooking school; Feature Friday and Meal Solutions Monday.
