Pennsylvania farm bureau members shine on national stage

By Blake Jackson

Two Pennsylvania Farm Bureau members have earned prestigious appointments in the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF), showcasing their dedication and expertise on the national stage.

Paige Spory, from Somerset County, Pennsylvania, will join the Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) Committee for the 2024-26 term. Spory, a multi-faceted farmer raising replacement dairy heifers, corn, soybeans, oats, and hay, brings a wealth of experience and diverse perspectives to the committee.

Rebecca Harrop, from Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, will lend her expertise to the Promotion & Education (P&E) Committee, starting in March. Harrop, a dedicated dairy farmer, will play a crucial role in developing and sharing resources that empower Farm Bureaus to communicate the importance of agriculture to the public.

The YF&R Committee, comprised of 16 members representing all regions of the U.S., focuses on program planning for young farmers and ranchers. This includes coordinating competitive events at the annual AFBF convention and the award-winning Harvest for All program.

The P&E Committee, consisting of ten individuals from qualifying states, is dedicated to crafting and centralizing resources that inspire and equip Farm Bureaus to effectively communicate the value and impact of agriculture. National committee members are nominated by their respective state farm bureaus, highlighting the trust and respect these Pennsylvania leaders have earned within their community.

These appointments are a testament to the dedication and leadership of Pennsylvania's agricultural community. Spory and Harrop's contributions to the AFBF will not only benefit young farmers and ranchers nationwide but also elevate the public's understanding of the vital role agriculture plays in our society.
