Center for Dairy Excellence Hosts Crop Risk Webinar

By Blake Jackson

The Center for Dairy Excellence will host a free webinar, “Crop Risk Management 101: Know Your Futures & Options,” on Friday, November 13, 2026, from noon to 1 p.m. The session will help dairy producers understand risk management strategies and prepare for the 2027 crop year amid ongoing pressure on farm profit margins.

Andy McCarty, Dairy Business Advisor for Land O’Lakes, Inc., will lead the presentation and discuss available programs and tools that farmers can use to manage financial risks and protect their operations.

“Andy McCarty is back on our ‘Protecting Your Profits’ series, and this month, he’ll be breaking down several risk management programs to help producers navigate tight margins,” said Valerie Mason-Faith, Risk Education Manager at the Center for Dairy Excellence.

“As we wrap up 2026, this is a great time to evaluate some of these programs and brainstorm ways to manage your margins tighter for the upcoming 2027 crop year.”

The webinar will cover several risk management options, including working with insurance agents, standard crop insurance, Dairy Revenue Protection (DRP), Livestock Gross Margin (LGM), Livestock Risk Protection (LRP), milk contracting, Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC), and Agricultural Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) decisions.

McCarty will also explain how producers can evaluate these programs and use them to strengthen their financial planning for the coming year.

The webinar is part of the Center's ongoing “Protecting Your Profits” educational series. Valerie Mason-Faith will facilitate the session.

Registration is free and available at www.centerfordairyexcellence.org/pyp-webinar. Participants will receive connection details by email after registering, and a recording will be available following the live presentation.
