USDA Forecasts Lower Pennsylvania Corn, Soybean Production



Pennsylvania corn production for grain is forecast at 128 million bushels, down 24% from 2021, according to King Whetstone, director of the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Northeastern Regional Field Office. Based on conditions as of September 1, yields are expected to average 150.0 bushels per harvested acre, down 19 bushels from the previous year. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 850,000 acres, down 14% from the previous year.

Soybean production for beans is forecast at 25.2 million bushels, down 20% from 2021. Based on conditions as of September 1, yields are expected to average 43.0 bushels per harvested acre, down 10 bushels from the previous year. Area harvested for beans in Pennsylvania is forecast at 585,000 acres, down 2% from 2021.

The 2022 Pennsylvania tobacco production is forecast at 13.0 million pounds, down 7% from 2021. Area harvested, at 5,300 acres, is down 50 acres from the previous year. Yield for the 2022 crop year is forecast at 2,448 pounds per acre, down 173 pounds from last year.
