Pennsylvania winter wheat production totaled 15.3 million bushels in 2022, up 2% from the 2021 total of 15.0 million bushels, according to King Whetstone, director of the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Northeastern Regional Field Office. Area harvested for grain totaled 210,000 acres, up 8% from the previous year. Yield was estimated at 73.0 bushels per acre, down 4.0 bushels from the previous year record high of 77.0 bushels per acre.
Oat production was estimated at 3.60 million bushels, up 54% from 2021. Yield was estimated at 59.0 bushels per acre, down 6.0 bushels from the previous year. Harvested area, at 61,000 acres, was 69% above last year.
Barley production was estimated at 1.34 million bushels, down 40% from the 2021 total of 2.24 million bushels. The average yield, at 67.0 bushels per acre, was down 13.0 bushels from the previous year. Producers seeded 41 thousand acres in 2022, down 9% from 2021. Harvested area, at 20,000 acres, was down 29% from 2021.
