On August 25, 2023, from 12 noon to 1:00 ET, two renowned institutions will come together for an enlightening session. The Penn State Center for Agricultural and Shale Law will collaborate with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Business Development Center.
Their combined effort is to present a segment of the Understanding Agricultural Law educational series. This segment is aptly titled “Understanding the Basics of Milk Pricing.”
There's a saying that milk pricing, as governed by the Federal Milk Marketing Order (FMMO) system, is understood by just a handful in the nation. The core idea of the FMMO system is straightforward. Its primary goal is to ensure dairy producers get consistent compensation. This is achieved by adjusting for the varying market prices of dairy products where milk is an ingredient.
While the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) oversees the FMMO system, its foundation was laid by dairy producers themselves. These producers voted in favor of the milk marketing orders through a series of referendums.
This upcoming webinar promises to shed light on the intricate workings of the FMMO system. It will touch upon associated legal aspects.
