The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) today announced a new funding opportunity for veteran-owned farms. The PDA will award up to $200,000 in grants to veterans' organizations that will then subgrant the funds to individual veterans for farm start-ups and expansions.
This new funding opportunity is part of the PDA's ongoing efforts to support Pennsylvania's veteran-owned farms. In 2022, the PDA awarded $5,000 in grants to 11 veteran-owned farms through the Pennsylvania Veterans in Agriculture Grants program.
"Veterans return from serving our country with valuable, hard-won skills they can put to work on the farm," said PDA Secretary Russell Redding. "Like any other business, they need to finance planning, safety, permits, equipment, and other critical needs. These grants are a tangible way the Shapiro Administration is thanking our veterans for their service and supporting their future success in agriculture."
The PDA encourages all eligible veterans' organizations to apply for the new funding opportunity. Applications will be accepted online from November 4, 2023, to December 15, 2023.
