The Center for Dairy Excellence is inviting dairy producers and industry partners to join its next “All Things Dairy” conference call on August 19 at 12 p.m. EST, where experts will discuss practical farm biosecurity measures for the late summer and early fall seasons.
Held every other month, the conference call provides updates on industry programs, resources, events, and issues affecting the dairy sector. This month's featured speakers are Dr. Hayley Springer, Chief of the Animal & Poultry Health Division, and Seth Confer, Biosecurity Program Specialist with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
The discussion will focus on disease prevention and farm biosecurity, including updates on New World Screwworm (NWS) and Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).
Participants will also learn best practices related to livestock movement, visitor management, feed security, wildlife interactions, and the development of written biosecurity plans.
“With national cases of New World Screwworm and HPAI, Pennsylvania dairy producers are encouraged to stay proactive and vigilant when it comes to biosecurity on your operations,” shared Valerie Mason-Faith, Risk Education Manager at the Center for Dairy Excellence.
“With shifting weather patterns as we transition from summer to fall, this is a good time to get a refresher on biosecurity tips for animal movement, on-farm visitors, animal feed, and wildlife. We hope you can join our August call to hear practical tips from the PA Department of Agriculture.”
The speakers will also explain how producers can submit biosecurity plans for state approval and what to expect during the review process. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and interact directly with the presenters during the live session.
