Alumni Board of Trustees Candidates' Forum March 15

WPSU will host an alumni trustees forum at 7 p.m. EST March 15 via livestream to introduce alumni candidates seeking to join the University’s Board of Trustees.

This first-ever forum is an opportunity for candidates to introduce themselves to alumni voters, and for alumni to learn more about the individuals vying for seats on the Board of Trustees.

Eight alumni are on ballot for three seats in this year’s alumni trustees election. The candidates, listed in ballot order, are:

• Melinda E. Kuritzky ’06 Lib, Washington, D.C.
• Ali Krieger ’07 Com, Montclair, N.J.
• Anthony P. Lubrano ’82 Bus, Paoli, Pa.
• Kevin F. Carey ‘89 Lib, Annapolis, Md.
• Joseph “Jay” V. Paterno ’91 Lib, State College, Pa.
• Uma P. Moriarity ’14 Bus, Mountain View, Calif.
• Alice W. Pope ’79, ’83g, ‘86g, Lib, Brooklyn, N.Y.

In order to be a candidate for the board, each alumnus must have received at least 250 nominations, met the qualification to be a trustee and accepted the nomination in writing. This year’s nomination phase was held between Jan. 15 and Feb. 25.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance and welfare of the University. Its responsibilities include — but are not limited to — reviewing and approving Penn State’s budget; setting tuition and room-and-board rates; approving major building projects across all campuses to support Penn State’s academic and research missions; hiring the University president; and authorizes the granting of degrees.

The board is composed of faculty; alumni; leaders from business, industry and agriculture; government officials; citizens; and a student trustee. Nine alumni-elected trustees are on the board, each serving a three-year term.

Election ballots will be distributed to alumni via email beginning on April 10 and the election will close at 9 a.m. EST on May 4. The three candidates receiving the highest number of votes will be elected to the board.

All Penn State alumni are eligible to vote in the election. Individuals do not have to be Penn State Alumni Association members in order to participate in Board of Trustees alumni elections.
