USDA opens first urban service center in Philadelphia

USDA opens first urban service center in Philadelphia

By Blake Jackson

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) opened the first USDA Urban Service Center in Philadelphia on October 20, 2023. The center is part of a broader effort to support urban agriculture in Pennsylvania.

The Urban Service Center offers farm loans, conservation, disaster recovery assistance, and risk management programs to urban farmers and producers. The center is located at the Leon H. Sullivan Human Services Center in Philadelphia.

USDA officials say the Urban Service Center is designed to strengthen services to urban farmers and producers and increase access to healthy, local foods.
