Pennsylvania is investing $2 million in Wine Marketing and Research Grants to support wine sales, improve production quality and expand tourism. The announcement was made during a Wine Month celebration at Penns Woods Winery, reflecting the state's growing wine industry.
The funding comes as Penns Woods Winery gains national attention for becoming the first Pennsylvania winery named a finalist for American Winery of the Year in the 2026 Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Awards. The recognition highlights the increasing prominence of Pennsylvania wines on the national stage.
Pennsylvania has grown into the nation's fourth-largest wine producer, supported by investments in research, business development, infrastructure and tourism. The state now hosts more than 400 licensed wineries across five wine regions.
The wine industry plays a significant role in the state's economy, supporting more than 10,700 jobs and contributing approximately $1.77 billion annually. Wine-related tourism also generates substantial revenue, drawing visitors to vineyards, tasting rooms and rural communities throughout the state.
According to the Pennsylvania Wine Association, the new funding will strengthen statewide marketing efforts and help increase awareness of Pennsylvania wines. The investment is expected to expand the industry's reach and improve its competitiveness in national markets.
The funding announcement was held at Penns Woods Winery in the Brandywine Valley, a family-owned business founded by Italian immigrant and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Gino Razzi. Over the past 25 years, the winery has grown into a leading destination while helping showcase Pennsylvania's winemaking potential.
Today, the winery is led by Carley Razzi and Davide Creato and continues to benefit from state-supported agricultural programs. The latest investment reinforces Pennsylvania's commitment to strengthening its wine industry, supporting rural economies and promoting long-term growth.
