Pennsylvania Produced Less Corn and Soybeans in 2022



Pennsylvania corn growers produced 118 million bushels, down 30% from 2021, according to King Whetstone, director of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Northeastern Regional Field Office. The average yield in Pennsylvania is estimated at 140 bushels per acre, 29 bushels below the 2021 average yield of 169.0 bushels per acre. Area harvested for grain, at 840,000 acres, is down 15% from 2021.

Corn for silage production in 2022 is estimated at 5.49 million tons, down 13% from 2021. The average yield is estimated at 18 tons per acre, down 3 tons from last year’s yield. Harvested area, at 305,000 acres, is up 2% from last year.

Soybean production in 2022 totaled 25.4 million bushels, down 20% from last year. Soybean yield is estimated at 43 bushels per acre, down 10 bushels from 2021. Harvested area in 2022, at 590,000, is down 1% from last year.

Pennsylvania tobacco production for 2022 is estimated at 13.0 million pounds, down 7% from last year. Growers harvested 5,000 acres, down 7% from a year ago. Yield per acre averaged 2,604 pounds per acre, down 17 pounds per acre from 2021.
