Pennsylvania has launched the Keystone AgTech Alliance, a new partnership designed to accelerate agricultural innovation by bringing together government agencies, research institutions, and industry leaders.
The agreement includes the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, the Department of Community and Economic Development, Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences, Team Pennsylvania, and Innovation Works, Inc.
The alliance aims to strengthen collaboration between researchers, technology developers, and agricultural producers to help solve real-world farming challenges through advanced technology. By coordinating resources, supporting research, and creating opportunities for demonstration projects, the partnership will help move new agricultural innovations from development to on-farm use.
The initiative also supports the goals of the Shapiro Administration’s Agricultural Innovation Grant Program, which has committed $30 million to help farmers adopt cutting-edge technologies that improve efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
“Today’s agreement is another step toward our shared goal of helping farmers address real-world challenges safely, effectively, and efficiently. Helping Pennsylvania farmers compete and continue leading the nation is the reason the Shapiro Administration launched Ag Innovation Grants, and today we’re bringing the right partners to the table to continue making that vision a reality," Sec. Redding said.
"The Keystone AgTech Alliance will amplify the impact of the millions in state funds we’re investing to further industry excellence, research, and development to help Pennsylvania farmers get stuff done.”
The announcement was made during the FIRA Robotics Village at Penn State’s Ag Progress Days, marking the first East Coast appearance of the internationally recognized agricultural robotics showcase.
The event highlighted emerging technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence, automation, and precision agriculture that can help farmers improve operations and address labor challenges.
With its diverse agricultural sector, leading research institutions, and access to major consumer markets, Pennsylvania is well positioned to serve as a testing ground for innovations that support farm productivity, sustainability, and long-term economic growth.
