Pennsylvania crop projections for October 2024

In Pennsylvania, the agricultural landscape for 2023 and the projected figures for 2024 reveal significant insights into key crops. For corn, the area harvested in 2023 was reported at 680,000 acres, with a forecasted decrease to 675,000 acres in 2024.

Yield per acre is expected to decline slightly from 157.0 bushels in 2023 to 139.0 bushels in 2024, leading to a reduction in production from 10.6 million bushels to approximately 9.3 million bushels.

The soybean crop, with harvested acreage expected to increase from 560,000 acres in 2023 to 600,000 acres in 2024.

However, yield per acre is projected to down from 47.0 bushels to 46.0 bushels, resulting in a production decrease from 26.3 million bushels to an estimated 24.6 million bushels.

Tobacco estimates have been discontinued for 2024, with 2023 figures showing an area harvested of 3,140 acres and production at 7,830,000 pounds. In hay production, alfalfa is projected to maintain a stable area harvested of 270,000 acres.
