Pennsylvania Corn Maturity Far Behind Average



According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in Pennsylvania, there were 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday. Topsoil moisture supplies were 5 percent very short, 45 percent short, 48 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 6 percent very short, 44 percent short, and 50 percent adequate.

Ninety-five person of corn was in the dough stage and 75 percent was dented. Ten percent of the corn crop has reached maturation, compared to the 5-year average of 30 percent. Corn condition is 6 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 32 percent good and 23 percent excellent.

The soybean crop condition is 10 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 43 percent good and 13 percent excellent.

Tobacco stripped was reported at 5 percent.

Pasture conditions were 15 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 48 percent good and 0 percent excellent.

Fall tillage was 16 percent complete, ahead of last year's 11 percent and slightly behind the 5-year average of 20 percent.
