Join us - sustainable lawn care for better water quality

Join us - sustainable lawn care for better water quality

By Blake Jackson

Join the Penn State Master Gardeners of Cumberland County for an enlightening workshop, "Gardening with Nature," on September 19, 2024.

This educational session, running from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, will take place at the Cleve J. Fredricksen Library in Camp Hill, PA. It’s a valuable opportunity for gardeners of all levels and anyone interested in enhancing their yard’s environmental impact.

The workshop will address the environmental shortcomings of traditional lawns compared to natural ecosystems like forests and meadows. Many homeowners are unaware of simple practices that can improve how their lawns manage stormwater.

The presentation will cover five key techniques to make your yard more water-friendly: reducing lawn size, cutting back on unnecessary fertilizer, adopting proper mowing methods, minimizing soil compaction, and implementing effective pest management strategies.

Participants will learn how to effectively manage stormwater runoff, enhance their yard’s habitat value, and contribute to improving the water quality in the Susquehanna River.

The session aims to help attendees transform their outdoor spaces into environmentally friendly areas that support better water management and a healthier ecosystem.

To attend, register by September 18, 2024. This workshop is perfect for those looking to adopt stormwater-friendly lawn care practices and make their outdoor spaces more sustainable. Don't miss this chance to gain practical knowledge and improve your garden's ecological footprint.
