Whitewater adventure- rapids event in Bucks County
Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 02/29/2024

Calling all whitewater enthusiasts! The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is hosting a thrilling event in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. On March 16th and 17th, water releases from Lake Nockamixon will create exciting rapids on Tohickon Creek, perfect for experienced kayakers, canoeists, and rafters.

The releases, starting at 4:00 AM, will generate suitable whitewater conditions for downstream boating at Ralph Stover State Park from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on both days. Viewing the water release and the bustling boating activity is also encouraged, with suggested hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Ralph Stover.

This annual event draws skilled boaters from across the Northeast. Participants are reminded that the rapids are classified as Class 3 and 4, requiring experience and adherence to the American Whitewater Affiliation's safety code. Wearing personal flotation devices, taking precautions against hypothermia, and using appropriate watercraft are mandatory for all participants.

For trail users, especially those on the High Rocks Vista Trail System, high traffic is expected during these days. Staying on marked trails, respecting other users, and managing groups responsibly are encouraged. Additionally, dogs must be kept on leashes, and owners must clean up after their pets.

This unique event offers the chance to experience the thrill of whitewater rapids or witness the excitement from the sidelines. Remember, safety is paramount, and responsible behavior is essential for both boaters and trail users.
