Pennsylvania Hog Inventory Unchanged from 2021

Pennsylvania inventory of all hogs and pigs on September 1, 2022, was 1.35 million head. This was unchanged from September 1, 2021, but down 1% from June 1, 2022, according to King Whetstone, director of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, Northeastern Region.

Breeding inventory, at 140,000 head, was down 3% from last year, but unchanged from the previous quarter.

Market hog inventory, at 1.21 million head, went up slightly from last year, but down 1% from last quarter.

The June-August 2022 pig crop, at 557,000 head, was down 1% from 2021. Sows farrowing during this period totaled 48,000 head, down 2% from 2021. The average pigs saved per litter was 11.60 for the June-August period, up 1% from as last year.
