The Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders' Strike Out Hunger partnership with the Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council (PPPC) has wrapped up for the 2023 season. The campaign raised $5,300 to support the Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank.
Throughout the season, a designated batter was pre-selected during each home game. If the batter struck out, $100 was donated to the food bank. A total of 53 designated batters struck out throughout the season.
The RailRiders' assistant general manager, Matt Hamilton, said that their mission is to be as involved in the community as possible and that their partnership with the Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council helps them to raise awareness of the needs of the Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank while also giving back.
"The pork community in Pennsylvania is committed to supporting local organizations that provide support for families in need," said Courtney Gray, PPPC executive director. "Protein in often in short supply for food banks and this sponsorship allows those in need to have access to a nutritious, wholesome protein source; pork."
The Strike Out Hunger campaign is a great example of how businesses and sports teams can work together to make a difference in their communities. The RailRiders and PPPC are committed to continuing this partnership in the years to come.
