Pumpkin Production Up, Snap Beans Down in Pennsylvania



Pennsylvania pumpkin production is estimated at 882 thousand cwt, up 8% from the 2021 estimate, according to King Whetstone, director of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Northeastern Regional Field Office. The average yield per acre is estimated at 140 cwt, 20 cwt above the 2021 average yield of 120 cwt per acre. Area harvested is estimated at 6,300 acres, down 7% from last year. The value of production totaled $24.9 million, up 12% from 2021.

Pennsylvania snap bean production is estimated at 360 thousand cwt, down 16% from the 2021 estimate. The average yield per acre is estimated at 60 cwt, 8 cwt below the 2021 average yield of 68 cwt per acre. Area harvested is estimated at 6,000 acres, down 5% from last year. The value of production totaled $10.7 million, up 18% from 2021.
