Farm credit offers grants to new farmers

By Blake Jackson

Horizon Farm Credit is offering grant funding to aspiring farmers through their JumpStart program. This program awards $10,000 to top applicants in the early stages of establishing their agricultural operations.

JumpStart is part of Horizon Farm Credit's broader Grow Ahead program, which provides resources and support for new farmers. This year, the program will award up to 15 grants.

To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have two years or less of experience (or be planning to start farming within two years), and reside within Horizon Farm Credit's territory. Both current and non-customers are welcome to apply.

Applications are open from March 1st to April 19th, 2024, and can be submitted through the Horizon Farm Credit website at horizonfc.com/jumpstart. There is no application fee.

"Supporting future generations of farmers is crucial for the industry's continued success," said Horizon Farm Credit CEO Tom Truitt. "Through the JumpStart program, Farm Credit is proud to offer financial assistance and demonstrate our commitment to empowering the next wave of agricultural leaders."
