Dairy Farms Invited to Host 2027 Student Interns

By Blake Jackson

Dairy producers in Pennsylvania and other states are invited to apply to host interns through the 2027 On-Farm Internship Program.

The initiative provides 10- to 12-week internships that help Pennsylvania students develop practical knowledge and skills while gaining experience on progressive dairy farms. Host farm applications must be submitted by November 15, 2026.

The program is supported by the Professional Dairy Managers of Pennsylvania (PDMP), the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association, and the Dairy Excellence Foundation, which collaborate annually to strengthen dairy workforce development.

“If you’re looking for an employee who has experience in dairy production and an interest in advancing their skills, this program allows you to help mentor and share your experience with a young professional,” said Michelle Shearer, Workforce Development Manager at the Center for Dairy Excellence.

“Interns benefit from gaining hands-on experience and being exposed to all aspects of your operation while many host farms benefit from getting an outside perspective from a young person who is motivated to work hard, learn a lot, and pay attention to detail.”

Participating in farms must establish learning objectives and areas of focus for each intern. Students will also join discussion groups and complete an in-depth research project designed to benefit their host operation.

Applications are due November 15, 2026, and can be submitted online. Producers can visit www.centerfordairyexcellence.org/internship for program requirements and expectations.
