Long Makes History as First-Ever Farm Show Master Showman

Holly Long of New Alexandria, Westmoreland County won the first-ever Master Showmanship Competition for breeding livestock at the 104th Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg. Long took home the title of Grand Champion Showman and the use of a stock trailer for one year. Reserve Champion for this year's competition was Kaitlyn Flaherty of Bernville, Berks County.

The new contest was an opportunity for youth to demonstrate their knowledge of the animal they were showing, as well as their poise and presentation skills. The contest was open to Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Showmen from the divisions of dairy cattle, breeding cattle, dairy goats, meat goats, alpacas and poultry. An individual may only qualify with one species each year. Each competitor shows an animal from each species included. Contestants are not allowed to show their own animals.

The participants and their animal species for today's master showmanship class included:

Sheep:

Grand Champion Showman - Callie Taylor of Timblin, Armstrong County.

Reserve Grand Champion Showman - Olivia Waggoner of East Berlin, York County.

Meat Goats:

Grand Champion Showman - Tyler Peterson of Tunkannock, Jefferson County.

Reserve Grand Champion Showman - Skylar Anderson of Columbia, Lancaster County.

Dairy Goats:

Grand Champion Showman - Holly Long of New Alexandria, Westmoreland County.

Reserve Grand Champion Showman - Janee Weyandt of Derry, Westmoreland County.

Dairy Cattle:

Grand Champion Showman - Keara Tice of Spring Mills, Centre County.

Reserve Grand Champion Showman - Cody Walker of Thomasville, York County.

Poultry:

Grand Champion Showman - Kaitlyn Flaherty of Bernville, Berks County.

Reserve Grand Champion Showman - Marissa Woodward of Honey Grove, Juniata County.

Alpacas:

Grand Champion Showman - Jillian Ranko of Butler, Butler County.

Reserve Grand Champion Showman - Cassy Lanza of Shermandale, Perry County.
