Pennsylvania Corn ad Soybean Yields at Record Highs

Pennsylvania corn production for grain is forecast at 145 million bushels, up 5% from 2020, according to King Whetstone, director of the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Northeastern Regional Field Office. Based on conditions as of September 1, yields are expected to average a record high 167.0 bushels per harvested acre, up 29 bushels from the previous year. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 870,000 acres, down 13% from the previous year.

Soybean production for beans is forecast at 29.6 million bushels, up 2% from 2020. Based on conditions as of September 1, yields are expected to average a record high 52.0 bushels per harvested acre, up 6 bushels from the previous year. Area harvested for beans in Pennsylvania is forecast at 570,000 acres, down 10% from 2020.

The 2021 Pennsylvania tobacco production is forecast at 14.2 million pounds, up 6% from 2020. Area harvested, at 5,500 acres, is unchanged from last year. Yield for the 2021 crop year is forecast at 2,581 pounds per acre, 137 pounds above last year.
