Pennsylvania Barley, Winter Wheat Plantings Lag Average

According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in Pennsylvania, there were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday.

Topsoil moisture supplies were 85 percent adequate and 15 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 90 percent adequate and 10 percent surplus.

The Pennsylvania apple harvest was 72 percent complete, near last year's 71 percent but behind the 5-year average of 79 percent.

Corn harvested for grain was 14 percent, behind last year's 22 percent and the 5-year average of 28 percent. Corn harvested for silage was 79 percent complete, far behind last year's 97 percent complete. The soybean harvest was 6 percent, also far behind last year's 37 percent and the 5-year average of 24 percent.

Barley planting reached 46 percent, behind 80 percent last year and the 5-year average of 76 percent. Winter wheat planted was 43 percent, behind 2020's 50 percent and the 5-year average of 52 percent complete.
