Meat Goat Production and Management Home Study Set

Interested in running a meat goat operation?
Penn State Extension is offering the Meat Goat Production and Management Home Study Course for goat producers interested in improving their production practices and ultimately the profitability of their operation.
The course runs from Feb. 5 to March 11. Registration deadline is Jan. 27. People can register online at https://bit.ly/2vb3Qzv.
Lesson topics include:
- Basic Production
- Nutrition
- Reproduction
- Health Issues
- Marketing
- Financial Information
Lessons are mailed weekly for six weeks. The first lesson will be mailed or emailed on Feb. 5. Postal participants will receive a CD or thumb drive of materials. Participants then read weekly lesson materials and complete a worksheet, returning it with any questions to the instructor. The worksheets ask questions about your individual operation. You will receive personalized comments and suggestions for ways to improve your operation. If you don't own meat goats yet, simply answer the questions based on what you plan to do.
Particpants should:
- Gain a better understanding of the basics of meat goat production.
- Learn how to feed to meet the nutritional needs of meat goats.
- Learn about the reproductive process in meat goats.
- Learn how to keep meat goats healthy and how to correct health problems.
- Learn effective ways to market your kids.
- Learn how to properly handle financial issues related to meat goat production.
