Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 08/04/2020

The Trump Administration Monday announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing $95,000 to retain and provide job growth in rural Pennsylvania.

"I am proud to announce vital funding that was affected by COVID-19 in western Pennsylvania. Investments like this are paramount to the goals of President Trump set forth in his Task Force on Agriculture and Rural Prosperity. This investment will help retain and grow the workforce in Fayette County. It is truly an honor to give back to the communities and help those seeking family sustaining jobs throughout this remarkable region.," said Curt Coccodrilli, state director. "Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA has been working tirelessly to be a strong partner to rural Pennsylvania in building stronger and healthier communities, because we know when rural America thrives, all of America thrives."

In rural Pennsylvania, Private Industry Council of Westmoreland will use $95,450 of Strategic Economic and Community Development (SECD) 6025 grant funds to complete a Feasibility Study. The Feasibility Study will identify workforce development needs of small, rural businesses. The study will assist in the retention of jobs and job growth within the service area, that currently serves 12,728. Businesses will be surveyed to determine needs based on job shadowing, apprenticeship opportunities, and incumbent employee trainings. Lastly, the study will assist in the development of workforce trainings to address these needs in Fayette County.
