Farm Bureau to Welcome Ag Progress Days Visitors
Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 07/19/2019

Pennsylvania Farm Bureau (PFB) is welcoming visitors to its exhibition building at Ag Progress Days from Aug. 13 to 15 to learn how Farm Bureau is working for farm families and the future of agriculture in the Commonwealth. Guests who visit PFB's building will be able to catch up on the latest legislative issues, learn about upcoming activities among Farm Bureau committees and talk with company representatives offering money saving member benefits. Meanwhile, there will be opportunities for children to take part in some fun and engaging activities.

"Ag Progress Days provides an ideal setting for people to engage with Farm Bureau members and staff, express their views on key agriculture issues and receive updates on what has been happening in Harrisburg and Washington D.C.," said PFB President Rick Ebert. "We also have a variety of fun, hands-on activities specifically designed for children. In addition, we're encouraging people not associated with agriculture to attend Ag Progress Days to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about farming practices, participate in educational tours and interact with farmers."

PFB's exhibit building is located at Penn State's Russell E. Larson Ag Research Center at East Fifth and Main Street on the Ag Progress Days grounds in Rock Springs, which is located about nine miles from State College. PFB's exhibit hours are 9 a.m.--5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13; 9 a.m.--6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14; and 9 a.m.--4 p.m. on Thursday, August 15.

Listed below are some of the activities taking place inside PFB's exhibit building at Ag Progress Days:

Government Affairs and Communications -- Farm Bureau staff will provide information about recent legislative victories in Harrisburg and on national issues up for consideration in the second half of 2019. A special emphasis will be placed on federal dairy legislation that calls for the return of whole, 2% and flavored milk in schools and milk labeling legislation.

Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation -- The foundation will have an interactive, farmers market themed bean-bag toss activity for kids to learn about locally grown food and products made from that food. There will also be a photo booth area for visitors, who are encouraged to post their pictures on social media.

Young Ag Professionals (formerly the Young Farmer & Rancher Committee) -- Members of the state's Young Ag Professionals Committee will be on hand to discuss leadership development, conferences and fellowship opportunities available to young farm families.

Women's Leadership Committee -- Committee members are hosting an educational tree-based activity for children that teaches the importance of trees for our habitat and in manufacturing. Women's Leadership members will discuss the book, "The Tree Farmer," which explains the vital role trees play in our lives. In addition, the committee will raffle off a crate of wood items to show the diversity and benefits of trees and tree farming. Members will also be on hand to discuss their role in the organization.

MSC Business Services -- Farm Management Service account supervisors are prepared to discuss the many business services available through PFB, including record keeping, tax planning and preparation, farm accounting software and a no-hassle payroll service that takes the headaches out of payroll tax preparation.

Health Insurance -- A Health Services representative will have information about health insurance plans available to PFB members.
