Pennsylvania Ag News Headlines
Pennsylvania Tart Cherry Harvest Completed
Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 07/17/2018

Pennsylvania had an excellent week for field activities with an average of 6.5 days suitable for field work. Temperatures were reported with a high of 96F, a low of 43F and a state average temperature of 72F.

Hot and dry weather continued throughout the week providing ample opportunity for field work, particularly hay cutting. The lingering heat wave, while initially good for field crops, has started taking its toll on overall conditions.

Some rain in the near future would be ideal in order to avoid impending heat stress. Corn and soybeans in particular have been reported as appearing dry and wilted.

Despite waning conditions, most field crops have shown rapid progress.

Tart cherry harvests have completed while apple and peach quality remains very good in spite of the heat.

Reported field work this week was focused on grain and hay harvesting, bailing straw and spraying.
