Lancaster Co. Jersey Takes Supreme in Open Dairy Show
Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 01/17/2018

Winning Supreme Champion Dairy Cow at the 102nd Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg, Pa., was a unique birthday present for Jacob Spatz of Lititz, Lancaster County.

The honors went to his four-year-old Jersey cow, Pleasant Valley A Tonka Mi, shown under Spatz Cattle Company, which he and wife Megan own.

Spatz Cattle Company is a 60-cow, 100 heifer tie stall operation using Jerseys, because of the premium milk and "quirky personalities," Jacob said. Showing quality cows and winning the purple banner will help to market quality show cattle. The best part of arming for Jacob?

"Farming keeps me humble," he said.

Joy Widerman of Gettysburg, Adams Co., judged the Ayrshire and Brown Swiss breeds; Michael Yoder of Belleville, Mifflin Co., judged the Guernsey, Jersey and Milking Shorthorn breeds; and Erin Uber of Adamsville, Crawford Co., judged the Holstein and Red & White dairy breeds.
