New England Natural Bakers Issue Recall for Listeria

NEW ENGLAND NATURAL BAKERS of Greenfield MA, is issuing a voluntary recall, the company has been notified by an ingredient supplier that an ingredient used in these products has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

No illnesses have been reported in relation to this product at this time.

The potential for contamination was noted after an ingredient supplier revealed the possible presence ofListeria monocytogenes.

"We take food safety seriously and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Consumers should discontinue use of the product listed above and may return the product to the retailestablishment it was purchased at for a refund," the company said in a release.
