Antique Tractors Put the Pedal to the Metal
Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 01/16/2019

Antique tractor enthusiasts young and old showed the packed stands of the Equine Arena what they were made of at the Antique Tractor Pull at the 2019 Pennsylvania Farm Show.

Pulls consist of antique tractors dragging a weighted sled down a track. As tractors move down the track, the weights on the sled, held in a box, move from atop the wheels at the back of the sled to the front of the sled, where a plate skids across the dirt and digs into the dirt further as the weight travels forward. The tractor that pulls the most weight the furthest wins.

The antique tractor pulls consisted of six different weight classes ranging from 3,000 to 6,000 pounds. Tractors were weighed prior to the start of the contest and afterward for verification.

The longest pull of the night was made by George Bradley of Denton, Md., on his 1959 Allis-Chalmers D-17 in the 4,000 lbs. class.
