PFBC Recognizes National Fishing and Boating Week
Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 06/07/2019

Joining with other recreation and conservation organizations across the country, The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) recognized this week as National Fishing and Boating Week.

"Fishing and boating opportunities are truly endless in Pennsylvania," said Tim Schaeffer, PFBC executive director. "With 86,000 miles of streams and rivers and hundreds of natural and man-made lakes across the Commonwealth, new adventures are always waiting right around the corner."

A user-funded agency that receives no PA General Fund tax revenue, the PFBC is dedicated to protecting, conserving and enhancing the Commonwealth's aquatic resources. Funds generated through the sale of fishing licenses and permits support a world-class system of fish hatcheries, dams and infrastructure projects, as well as education, research and habitat programs. Boat registrations and associated fees support safety and law enforcement, boating infrastructure and other projects.

The PFBC is dedicated to promoting fishing and boating activities to people of all ages and backgrounds through educational programs including mentored youth and urban fishing opportunities, introduction to kayaking classes and women's fly fishing courses. Fish-for-Free Days are held annually on the Sunday during Memorial Day weekend and July 4, where a fishing license is not required. A complete list of activities can be found on the PFBC calendar of events.

Fishing licenses can be purchased by visiting more than 700 license issuing agents or online at www.gonefishingpa.comOpens In A New Window. All other information, including how to locate great places to fish and boat, basic safety information, rules and regulations and how to purchase a boating registration or launch permit can be found at

In recognition of National Fishing and Boating Week, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed a resolution, encouraging these valuable forms of outdoor recreation.
