Wet Conditions Impact Pennsylvania Pumpkins
Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 10/23/2018

Pennsylvania had a good week for field activities with an average of 4.5 days suitable for field work. Temperatures were reported with a high of 71F, a low of 24F and a state average temperature of 46F. Less rain this week, but continued cool temperatures did little to dry wet fields.

Corn silage harvests have just about reached an end. Grain corn seems to have fared well despite the moist conditions whereas soybeans have struggled with mold growth and discoloration.

Apple harvests are nearing completion but quality issues continue to raise concerns over storage shelf life.

Pumpkins have suffered from wet conditions resulting in poor quality and size or, in many cases, severe rot.

Field activities included harvesting grain corn and soybeans, cutting corn silage and planting winter grains.
